The VanHook’s

Lifestyle At Home Session

Since November of 2016 I have had the pleasure of photographing this beautiful family. It is truly a privilege to help The Vanhook’s document such special times in their life. From being a family of four, to their maternity with their 3rd baby boy, the birth, and now beautiful family moments as a family of five; what a blessing it has been to build a wonderful friendship with these wonderful people. I Love you guys so so much!!!

There is just something so special about being in the home of a client and capturing the most mundane moments. Don’t get me wrong, I love documenting sweet moments in a gorgeous outdoor location but lifestyle sessions provide heirlooms that people can treasure until the end of time of at place where the most memories are created. I want to create images of the real, raw love in my client’s hearts and homes.

Shalina’s love for her boys is strong and shines through every single photo we have ever taken together. For me, Motherhood is the truest, most extraordinary thing; the sacred space that feels familiar, that makes us whole and provides mothers with rich purpose. Seeing that same wholeness in Shalina, and in all my clients, is such a wonderful site to witness and it allows me to use that richness to guide our sessions together. It is truly a gift.

To go along with The Vanhook’s Lifestyle session, here is a little piece of their love story <3

1. How did you and David first meet?

It’s short and sweet lol but funny. We met at club fit. He worked there and me and Chelsea decided to start working out. He added me on Instagram and after a few days we ran out of pictures to like so he had to talk to me lol he walked up to me with a broom in his hand and said “you should hit me up sometime” It worked because I text him before I was out of the parking lot and here we are six years later with 3 beautiful boys and a happy marriage

2. What would you say was the greatest advice you’ve received on marriage?

Marriage isn’t 50/50, it’s 100/100. Both partners giving it everything they’ve got.

3. In your experience, what the key to making marriage work?

Always put god first. We make god the center of our home and the rest falls into place.

4. You are killing it at motherhood! How do you do it?

Honestly, They make it easy. My kids are best friends and they are good boys. We have a routine, they have chores and responsibilities, and kindness is key in our house. You treat others as you want to be treated. They know to use their manners, follow the rules, and always be respectful. Now let’s be honest, it’s not rainbows and butterflies 24/7. Come on, I live in a house full of rambunctious boys and their dad is like another kid when they all get fired up but our house is overflowing with fun and love. We are raising little gentleman and they make this mommas job so easy and I’m very proud.

5. Best advice you can give to new parents?

I seen a quote once and it said “The best thing you can spend on your kids is time” and it’s so true! Get in the floor and play. Watch their favorite movie for the 100th time. Dance like a crazy person just to hear them giggle. Let them help in the kitchen even if you know they’re gonna make a mess. Over time I’ve learned, the basket full of laundry, sink full of dishes, and dirty house will be there after they go to sleep. Every day they get a little older so enjoy every second.

6. How did you like your lifestyle session compared to our normal outdoors session?

At first I was a little nervous because I LOVE our outdoor sessions but our lifestyle session was perfect. It was convenient and we had everything we needed right there. Everyone was comfortable and able to loosen up and have fun in our own home.

7. Would you recommend a lifestyle session to others?

Absolutely!
